About the area:
The population of Saint-Pourcain-sur-Sioule recorded in 2013 was 4,971 whilst for Chatteauneuf Les Brains it was only 290.
Chateauneuf-les-Bains is a village of Puy-de-Dome, in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, 34 km north-west of Riom.
The territory of the town is located on the borders of the historic and natural regions of Auvergne and Bourbonnais, crossed by the course of Sioule which forms at this place a rather marked meander dominated by a hill.
Already inhabited during Antiquity, a Roman road crossing the Sioule via a ford, the city develops in the Middle Ages around a mound castrale then a castle and a monastery on both sides of the river.
Until the Revolution, two parishes are established on the territory. But it is with the rise of a spa in the nineteenth century, known to appease rheumatism, Chateauneuf-les-Bains finally joined a tourist pole also appreciated for its green environment.
Counting some 300 inhabitants, the town delights hikers and fishermen, and its serenity is perfect for spa guests. This makes it a great choice for anyone staying in the area.
